Welcome

COMING IN THE SPRING!

I Can Help on the Farm

An "I Read, You Read" book about children growing up on a family-owned dairy farm.

Written and photographed by me with the help and support of Audrey Donahoe, a director on the National Dairy Board.

You captured the delight on the faces of children who live on farms. Caleb, one of my emerging readers, was proud to have his "world" highlighted in such a positive way. He beamed as he read to his classmates.

Amazing! The pictures are wonderful. They reminded me of growing up in Amish country as a child in Western Pennsylvania. This kind of reader is what children need!  No need for imagination, it’s all here. Michelle Terry, Artmajeur.com/mterry1, Springdale, Arkansas.

I Can Help on the Farm is an outstanding beginner reader book that children will find pleasing and easy to read.  It has exciting information and facts that most people do not know about farm life.  The photographs and the layout of the book are awesome!  I work with children and they will find this book very enjoyable and they will read it again and again.

Barbara Linsley's latest work, written in unique "Emerging Reader" format, is delightful and instructional.

I Can Help on the Farm is a valuable tool for teaching children where dairy products, so necessary to their healthful growth, originate.

“Takes me back to my childhood! In a world where family farms are being taken over by large corporations, this book preserves an American legacy for the next generation. Let us not forget where our great nation was grown; on the family farm!”

This story is well written, pulls you along the list of chores and pleasures that come with cows and dairy farming.  I can still smell the hay in that hay loft when I

see the pictures of kids playing there.

Barbara Linsley's book "I Can Help on the Farm", will hold a child's
attention, help them learn to read successfully and teach many lessons
about living on a farm. As an artist and art teacher, I am most
impressed with Linsley's research into the importance of the color
text it prints on. Awesome photos!

"I can Help on the Farm" is a wonderfully crafted book and perfect for beginner readers! The alternating pages for sharing the story with both the child and their parent, is a beautiful idea. Our children loved it. I'm 33 and learned about dairy farm life! I guess you're never too old or too young to read.

I can Help on the Farm is entertaining, as well as educational. Readers learn about life on a working family farm and dairy, and how everyone including children pitch in to help. With more and more families living in urban areas, it is vitally important for the survival of family farms for urbanites to know more about where their food comes from, and to put a face to their providers.
I shared this book with my city dwelling 7 year old nephew, Sean. He was delighted with the photographs and the story of children helping on the farm. Furthermore, he was able to connect what he read in the book to the family-owned dairy farm in the small town where I live. When we visited the dairy this weekend to buy milk and pet the cows in the barn, he was able to tell me how the cows are cared for and how the milk is processed.

The fun questions at the end of the book are a perfect way for parents to engage with their children and encourage reading comprehension. Plus, they are just plain fun! I hope this book inspires parents and teachers to bring the kids to visit their local farmers. Cynthia O’Neal

This is a delightful book that parents can enjoy with their children, learning about the fascinating world of dairy farming.  This book makes me want to take my seven year old out to a dairy farm!  What an ingenious idea to have children read the left pages while adults read the right! - Debby Gwaltney, flamework art glass and jewelry artist, www.starlight-beads.com, Ozone,

Great! The student page helps keep the frustration level down for young
and dyslexic readers, while the parents page and wonderful pictures hold
their attention.  The beautiful photographs help reinforce the story for
the visual learner. Rhonda Reeves, Mother of a 29 year old dyslexic, Visual Artist  and Host at

My second grade grandchild, who has not yet conquered the written word, will enjoy reading "his pages" in this very interesting book.  Viewing children working with happy faces will help all kids who read the story accept and perform their own chores more pleasantly. Janis Gill Ward, professional artist, teacher, writer of stories and grandmother of learning disabled children and grandchildren, wrdjh@Yahoo.com, Fayetteville, Arkansas.

I wish to purchase one each of the two books by B. Linsley and I will write her direct.  Thank you for this experience.

I Can Help on the Farm provides beginning readers with a beautiful glimpse into the workings of farms and the families who own them. The book incorporates wonderful photographs of children actually helping run family farm operations. It is a delightful and interesting book for beginning readers!
